Phone unlocking questions

Our sim unlock is an IMEI-based permanent sim unlock for all iPhone models. Both our unlocks (activation lock remove and network unlocks) are done OTA (Over The Air) from carrier servers and Apple servers, so no jailbreak is required

As of January 13th 2013, unlocking your handset without the carriers permission is illegal. Fortunately, our unlocks are official IMEI-based unlocks done via requests from the carrier and 100% legal.

We may not be the cheapest, but you can use our service worry-free as we don’t alter the firmware on the iPhone in any way. And because this unlock is carrier approved and does not require a clumsy “jailbreak”, it means you can update the OS on your iPhone when new firmware comes out, and sync your device with iTunes.

The reason many network providers SIM lock their phones is that they offer phones at a discount to customers in exchange for a contract to pay for the use of the network for a specified time period, usually between one and three years.

This business model allows the company to recoup the cost of the phone over the life of the contract. Such discounts are worth up to several hundred Rands, If the phones were not locked, users might sign a contract with one company, get the discounted phone, then stop paying the monthly bill (thus breaking the contract) and start using the phone on another network or even sell the phone for a profit. SIM locking makes it more difficult to do this.

An emphatic no – ANY sim card will unlock your iPhone once your unlock is processed. Do I need to be located in the country my iPhone is locked to in order to unlock the device?

Once you receive the unlock confirmation, you can unlock your handset in any country, or indeed at sea(!) – all you need is an iTunes connection.

The whole procedure is remote, once your IMEI is marked as unlocked by ourselves you simply connect your iPhone to iTunes for unlocking. All the whitelisting is handled by ourselves.

A pre-order simply means that those unlocks are currently offline whilst we are in negotiations to confirm a price with the carrier and Apple. Hence why the price is always R650.00. Please note this isn’t the final unlocking price which may be substantially more expensive.

Once our negotiations are concluded, you will be emailed the final price which will also be on the website, and you can then complete your order and purchase the full unlock, which will be discounted by R650.00.

This gives you the opportunity to get unlocked the fastest way, rather than having to keep checking our website to see if the unlock is online yet.

Remember – we get our unlocks before, and cheaper than anyone else.

There are websites that can unlock in 5 minutes. Most iPhone unlocking sites out there are scam websites – anyone selling you software to unlock an iPhone is a scam, as software cannot unlock an iPhone (it hasn’t been able to since 2008).

A carrier-approved unlock is the ONLY way to sim unlock an iPhone, and indeed the only legal way. Getting the carriers approval takes time. If someone is willing to lie to you to get your money, they are not going to refund you either despite any “money back guarantees” they may offer.

Depends on which network your iPhone is locked to – it varies between a few hours and 10 days. Unlocks are processed during normal working hours (Monday to Friday).

Once you receive your email to confirm that your handset is unlocked, for the iPhone simply connect it to iTunes which will complete the unlock.
